Join guest speaker Erika Carrasco to explore the regulatory aspects of autonomous vehicles - both internationally and in Canada.
Specific topics of the session will include:
- What a good regulatory framework might look like
- What types of legal risks exist (regulatory, contractual, tort)
- Who will bear those risks and how any legal risk can be mitigated
Speaker: Erika Carrasco is a Partner with Field Law practicing litigation and dispute resolution in insurance, construction, energy and emerging technologies. She has achieved success for her clients at all levels of Court in Alberta in a broad range of disputes involving contracts, builders’ liens, drone law, property, commercial and product liability, wrap-up and builders’ risk liability and motor vehicle claims
Erika is also leading the firm's Emerging Technology group with a current focus on (UAV)/Drone Law, Driverless/Autonomous Vehicles and Cyber Liability. She leverages her business, insurance and litigation knowledge to help new and existing clients navigate this fast-paced and constantly changing technological landscape to their benefit. Erika is one of few lawyers in Canada with litigation experience in Drone Law. In 2017, she was counsel involved in the first conviction, and successfully appealed the charge pursuant the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
A seasoned speaker at both legal and industry events, she has been asked to present provincially, nationally and in the U.S. including at the 2016 National RIMS Canada and for the Seminar Group in Las Vegas as part of the 2016 InterDrone Conference. She will be present on an Emerging Technology/Internet of Things panel in September 2017 to an international legal audience for the State Capital Group.
Erika received her Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University in 2001 and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary in 2006. She was admitted to the Alberta bar in 2007.
