The Ontario government has recently enacted the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change's (MOECC) Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act, 2016 along with the related greenhouse gas emissions reporting and the cap and trade regulations. This legislation will effectively impose a cost for greenhouse gas emissions in respect of specific activities with a view to reducing greenhouse gases to meet Ontario’s emission targets.
