Hear from a panel of experienced lawyers and Deputy Judges on practical strategies for drafting offers, minutes of settlement and releases, and how to enforce settlements if things go south.
Christine LaCasse, lawyer at Williams McEnery LLP and Deputy Judge, will provide valuable insight to young lawyers on enforcing settlements. Laurie Tucker, partner at Burn Tucker Lachaine LLP, will share with you tips for drafting offers, minutes of settlement and releases and will discuss how and when these documents should be used. Sean Giovannetti, lawyer at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP, will discuss negotiation techniques and provide insight on things young lawyers should do (and many forget to do) when negotiating settlements. Ian Stuffer, Partner at Tierney Stauffer LLP and Administrative Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court, will communicate the biggest mistakes young counsel make when advocating on their client’s behalf at a settlement conference or mediation, and discuss some helpful settlement strategies
