Expert Perspectives on the New WSIB Draft Benefit Policies
Workers' Compensation | Original Program Date: January 15, 2014

In 2012, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) launched a consultation around several key benefits policies.  The consultation was led by Jim Thomas, former Deputy Minister of Labour and Alternate Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal (predecessor to the WSIAT).  Mr. Thomas issued his report in May 2013, on the four benefits policies – aggravation basis, recurrences, permanent impairment and work disruptions.  He also recommended creation of a new policy on pre-existing conditions.  In November 2013, the WSIB issued five draft policies.  Stakeholder input on these drafts will take place until February 28, 2014.  WSIB will then review the feedback and develop final policies.  These are foundational policies in Ontario’s workers’ compensation system.  The decisions made will have a major impact for years to come.  This session will feature expert commentators on the draft policies, from the worker and employer community perspective.  If you are participating in the consultation, this valuable overview and discussion will help you formulate your own submissions.
