The international movement towards greater transparency with respect to payments to foreign governments in extractive industries has gained significant momentum in the past few years. This panel will delve into the recent developments in Canada and the U.S. as well as discuss possible future directions for the transparency initiative. Particular focus will be given to the report of the Extractive Resource Revenue Transparency Working Group which has provided a number of recommendations on implementing mandatory reporting standards for Canadian mining companies.
