View this program to gain insights from our expert faculty on a range of common legal issues that specifically engage the unique rights and circumstances of young people in the immigration and refugee law context. Understand what the issues are, how they touch on a range of practice areas, and develop strategies for effectively representing the interests of the child/ youth. Topics will include:
- Advocacy protecting the best interests of the child, including issues such as:
- Humanitarian and compassionate immigration applications
- Interaction of child custody and deportation of a parent
- Designated representatives’ role on behalf of children
- Health issues in the immigration law context
- Children’s education issues arising in immigration and refugee matters, including:
- Student authorizations
- “Educational opportunities” as a legal issue in immigration cases
