The Ontario - New York Legal Summit
Business Law | Original Program Date: March 28, 2014
The New York State Bar Association’s International Section and the Ontario Bar Association are pleased to present the second Ontario-New York Legal Summit held in Toronto on March 28. The first Summit held in 2012 was extremely successful with approximately 150 registrants in Toronto alone.
With ever-increasing trade and business across the U.S.-Canadian border, lawyers must keep abreast of cross-border legal issues in order to best serve their clients’ needs and increase their own business development opportunities. Canada and the U.S. share a common legal system, and, while they are separate and distinct jurisdictions, the interface of the Canadian and U.S. economies provides nearly infinite opportunity. In light of this special and unique relationship, the theme of the Summit:
1 Legal System + 2 Jurisdictions = Infinite Opportunity
The features of the common legal system, highlighted by the different approaches to various challenges and issues in the two jurisdictions will be explored at the Summit, which features 18 CLE/CPD-eligible panels covering a wide range of issues, such as cross-border taxation, cross-border financing transactions, multijurisdictional class litigation, alternate dispute resolution and resources, mining and energy, featuring high-level federal, state and provincial officials.
