Gender Identity and Gender Expression in the Workplace
Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity| Original Program Date: November 11, 2013
In June 2012, gender identity and gender expression were added as prohibited grounds of discrimination under the Ontario Human Rights Code (the “Code”). Similar amendments have also been proposed and, in some cases, enacted in other jurisdictions. Hear from a panel of experts about the legal and policy issues arising from the recognition of these new grounds, with a particular focus on workplace issues including:
- What do these new grounds mean for employers, employees, and unions?
- How will gender identity and gender expression be interpreted by Human Rights tribunals and courts?
- What is required for workplace accommodation?
- What best practices should organizations adopt to ensure compliance with the Code?
