Canada @ 150 The Immigration Experience
As Canada prepares to celebrate 150 years, we will take a look at the immigration experience and how the process is evolving.
We will cover a variety of timely and important topics, including:
- Economic Class applications and Express Entry
- Port of Entry issues and border searches
- Right to counsel and the role of counsel
- Strategy in Family Class spousal sponsorship
- Detention and misrepresentation cases at the IRB
The conference will feature speakers from the judiciary, senior practitioners, Department of Justice lawyers, tribunal members, and government representatives from IRCC, CBSA and ESDC.
Young Lawyers Social - June 8 at 7:30 pm
The CBA National Immigration Law Conference is a great opportunity to meet up with colleagues, expand your referral networks and develop new friendships.
Every year we welcome new and returning Young Lawyers (less than 5 years called to the bar) to this event, and work to ensure an inclusive and educational experience. This year we are introducing a new short mentoring opportunity and are looking for Senior Members of the bar (8+ years called to the bar) who plan to attend our Friday Dinner Banquet to volunteer 10-15 minutes of their time.
During the cocktail hour of this event each Young Lawyer with be matched with a senior member of the bar who will take some time to get to know the Young Lawyer and provide some advice and guidance with respect to developing an immigration practice. The hope is that the Young Lawyer would then feel comfortable in the future reaching out to this senior member of the bar for future guidance and/or more confident to approach other senior members of the bar at similar events.
If you are willing to volunteer please contact Jenna Kirk, Young Lawyers Coordinator at jkirk@fieldlaw.com
