ONLINE MEETING: Resist/Refuse Parental Contact - A Child's Perspective

Synopsis

Parenting disputes that involve a child resisting/refusing contact with a parent are one of the most difficult cases facing family law practitioners.

Brandys Evans and Michael Zimmerman talk about the most common orders available to the court in trying to address resist/refuse cases as well as the impact on a child as a result of these orders, such as: Do nothing; Parenting time reversal; Therapy; or Reunification counselling.

About the Speakers

Brandys Evans Brandys Evans Brandys is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in private practice in North Vancouver, where she works extensively with children, youth, families and couples. Brandys is completing doctoral studies in counselling and psychotherapy with research supporting our deeply rooted, neurobiological experience of shame. Brandys is currently the clinical director at Boomerang Counselling Centre in North Vancouver..

Michael Zimmerman is a Family Law Lawyer and Children’s Lawyer with Lindsay Kenney in Vancouver and Managing Lawyer (Roster) at the Society for Children and Youth’s - Child and Youth Legal Centre in Vancouver. Michael is currently the Chair of the CBA National Child and Youth Law Section and Chair of the CBABC Children’s Law Section. Michael is also a Roster member of the Hear the Child Society as well as Vice-Chair of the Board.
