Synopsis
Over the past several years, administrative monetary penalties (AMPs) have been on the rise – both in terms of the number of penalties issued and the quantum of those penalties. While AMPs may be a valuable tool for governments to deter environmental noncompliance, this trend poses a significant financial risk to organizations and creates unique challenges for counsel. In this lunch and learn session, Tony Crossman, Paulina Adamson, and Cassandra Sawers of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP will provide an overview of the lifecycle of an AMP and practical tips on each stage of the AMP process – from pre-issuance, to the notice of AMP and opportunity to respond, to appeal mechanisms.
