New justice model for the protection of children and adults
October 24, 2024 • 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Atlantic Time) • Webcast (Zoom)
New Brunswick will introduce a new child and adult protection justice model aimed at improving access to family justice. Our province has struggled with access to family justice for over two decades. In the fall of 2024, a new child and adult protection justice model will be introduced, largely inspired by the highly successful model used in the province of Manitoba. Hearing Officers will be involved in the early stages of child and adult protection matters using a non-adversarial approach and resolving many pre-trial issues. The approach will focus on proactively resolving cases without the need for trial, significantly reducing court time for child protection matters and improving access to family justice for all other matters in the family division.
