OBA PROGRAM | 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (ET)
During Black History Month, as we pay tribute to the history of Black people and communities in Canada, we also want to recognize those who are moving forward the wheel of history in real-time. As a home for diversity and inclusion in the profession, the OBA especially celebrates the Black lawyers who positively contribute to the Black community and to the OBA’s own community of lawyers.
Knowing that community creates opportunity, the OBA proudly creates the space for lawyers with shared interests to come together and connect. And this February, in the spirit of community-building and celebration, the OBA along with President Charlene Theodore, the organization’s first Black lawyer to hold the position, will host a Blocko on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm ET.
Black law school students and new lawyers are especially encouraged to attend as Charlene and her co-host, Black Legal Mentor-in-Residence at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Samantha Peters will take part in an “Ask Me Anything” conversation while guests enjoy networking and community-connections alongside the transcendent musical beats of the talented DJ Steph Honey.
The OBA Blocko is your virtual community block-party! You will get to know new friends, connect with your community, share experiences of making your way in the profession – all while having a really great time. It is a way to share our identify and our community.
This is going to be a lot of fun! We hope you will join us.
There is no fee to attend.
