Economist Roundtable with the Competition Bureau

This event is the annual Economist Roundtable hosted by the Economics and Law Committee and the Economic Analysis Directorate of the Competition Bureau. This year’s Roundtable will consist of two panels and a keynote speaker. The first panel will discuss coordinated effects in merger analysis. The second panel will discuss competition assessments involving effects on product quality, variety and repositioning. As an introduction to each panel, there will be a 30 minute overview of the recent academic research in the topic. Professor Matthew Weinberg (Ohio State University) will provide the overview for the panel on coordinated effects. Professor Chris Sullivan (University of Wisconsin) will provide the overview for the panel on competition assessments. The Keynote speaker will be Professor Matthew Osborne (University of Toronto). He will speak to the issue of increasing concentration in economies such as Canada.
