Join esteemed members of the CBA Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section and their Department of Justice counterparts for a dynamic exchange about key environment and energy topics.
The program will include presentations on Indigenous involvement and other considerations for project development as well as the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at the federal level. The recent amendments to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 will also be discussed. In addition, participants will hear about recent developments in the United States from the upcoming chair of the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources.

Indigenous Involvement in Energy and Resources Development Projects
This panel will feature discussions on the involvement of Indigenous Peoples. This includes discussions on business structures and relationships development including impact benefit agreements. This panel will also include discussion on the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

Recent amendments to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999
A presentation on the recent amendments to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA), including an overview of the historical background and context for CEPA reform, culminating in the Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act which recognizes a right to a healthy environment under CEPA and modernizes Canada's chemicals management regime. The panel will also include reflections on the recent amendments by experienced private sector counsel, including lessons learned from the experience in Quebec which has legislated a right to the quality of the environment and a right to a healthy environment.
