Join an expert panel of lawyers from the CBA SOGIC Section to explore practical steps to make our courts a more welcoming place for people from the LGBTQ2SI community, with a focus on transgender and intersectional issues.
The panelists will cover material that will be of interest to those who are both new to these issues and those who are more familiar. They will begin by explaining the foundational concepts and vocabulary of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and intersectionality. They will then provide their insight on obstacles and barriers within the Canadian legal system, how the practice of law is evolving in the pursuit of achieving inclusion, and what remains to be done.
The panelists aim to provide an open and welcoming environment for people to learn and ask questions about these issues, while highlighting simple, practical changes that can lead to immediate improvements.
