Indigenous Governance: Laws, Lands and Shared Decision-Making
LEAD SPONSOR
This year’s online national conference looks to developments in the enactment of Indigenous laws, the asserted jurisdiction of Indigenous peoples over land use, and shared public law decision-making between Indigenous governments and the Crown.
The CBA will host a diverse faculty of leading practitioners and Indigenous leaders to inform and examine these recent developments across Canada. Panelists include those responsible for enacting Indigenous laws, asserting jurisdiction of Indigenous peoples over public and private land use, or participating in public law decisions shared among Indigenous and Crown governments.
Join one or several panels of community leaders, lawyers and government negotiators as they share perspectives on achieving Indigenous self-determination across Canada as an important aspect of reconciling the Crown’s rights and interests with those of Indigenous peoples.
Connect with expert panelists in discussion to illuminate the path toward recognizing and applying Indigenous laws in national and local contexts. Learn of current trends among federal and provincial governments committing to do things differently as they redefine nation-to-nation relationships with Indigenous peoples. Consider how best to strengthen the implementation of modern treaties and self-government agreements. Take a step toward delivering on the call to action by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to achieve cultural competency.
