Thinking Outside of the Box: Your Legal Career
This session aims to provide a conversation space for those who are contemplating making the leap towards a less traditional legal career. We will discuss opportunities, factors to consider, and tailoring your career to your life. We will also discuss COVID-19’s impact on your career planning, since necessity might just be the mother of all invention.
Facilitators
Kathleen Pinno recently launched “Options Legal Research and Writing”, a law firm that aims to make other lawyers’ lives easier through freelance legal research and writing services. She chose to establish a freelance practice to allow her to have flexible and enjoyable work in the (relatively isolated) coastal city of Powell River, British Columbia. She obtained her J.D. from the University of Alberta in 2015, and she is an active member of the law societies of Alberta and British Columbia. www.optionslegalresearch.ca
Candice Ashley Pollack is the Executive Director of the AGE-WELL National Innovation Hub Advancing Policies and Practices in Technology and Aging (APPTA). She divides her time at work about 60:40, between building policy partnerships and scribbling ideas on her 7-foot whiteboard. Her favourite part of her job is supporting APPTA in finding creative ways to influence and innovate Canadian public policy for the aging population.
Candice completed her Bachelor of Laws & Bachelor of Civil Law degrees at McGill University and is deeply passionate about human rights’ discourses. She has contributed to published works on youth participation rights, children’s rights in a globalized economy, and child protection rights.
