CCCA and Fasken is pleased to partner on a lunch and learn on May 15, 2024.  Join us at Fasken’s office on the Tsuut’ina Nation as some of their leading energy and Indigenous law lawyers canvass Indigenous equity investments in energy, natural resource and other infrastructure projects.  In addition to reviewing recent examples and trends across industries, they will canvass structuring considerations, best practices and lessons learned.

Speakers:

Amy Carruthers:  Amy Carruthers is a corporate/commercial Partner in the Vancouver office with a solid background as a transaction lawyer and extensive experience in the energy industry. She is a member of the firm’s Global Energy and Climate Group and Indigenous Law Group. Amy drafts and negotiates complex commercial contracts regarding the purchase and sale of energy, investments in and other transactions involving resource projects, as well as relationships with Indigenous communities to foster reconciliation and facilitate project development. 

Some of the clients Amy works with include BC Hydro, Powerex, Vancouver Airport Authority, Leagold Mining Corporation, Prince Rupert Gas Transmission, and Coastal GasLink Pipeline.

Prior to joining Fasken in 2014, Amy worked with a regional firm in Vancouver for many years and then took a short break from private practice to work in-house with a client, where she gained invaluable experience from the client perspective. 

Zach Romano:  Zach assists clients with a broad spectrum of project development matters, including environmental approvals, consultation issues, acquisitions and divestitures of resource assets and Indigenous equity participation transactions. He has particular expertise negotiating and drafting agreements involving Indigenous nations, including impact benefit, joint venture and other project-related agreements.

He is currently serving as Co-Chair of the British Columbia Branch of the Canadian Bar Association's Truth and Reconciliation Committee.

Zach is Métis, a descendant of the historic Métis community at Lac St. Anne and a director of the Métis Community Services Society of BC.
