2:45 pm - 4:10 pm Technology and the Legal Profession: Ethical Issues and Regulatory Responses
In our current digital environment, new tools are emerging to empower lawyers and the public in unprecedented ways. These tools create both opportunities and risks for the delivery of legal services and these in turn require regulatory responses. This panel will discuss a wide range of topics relating to legal ethics and technology including a lawyer’s duty of competence and duty to preserve client confidences when using technology, civility on social media platforms, and lawyers' ethics in a virtual courtroom. Possible regulatory responses by law societies to technological innovation will also be addressed.
