About David Eby QC, Attorney General of BC

David Eby, Q.C., is the MLA for Vancouver-Point Grey; he was first elected in 2013.

David was re-elected in 2017 to serve a second term in the B.C. Legislature and in July 2017 was appointed to his current role as Attorney General by Premier John Horgan. David is also responsible for gambling policy, liquor policy and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC).

Since being appointed Attorney General, David has been the lead Minister on multiple priority government initiatives, including:

  • the establishment of a provincial public inquiry into money laundering (the Cullen Commission) following his work exposing large-scale trans-national money laundering centred in the Lower Mainland;
  • a provincial ban on union and corporate political donations;
  • award-winning reforms to protect British Columbians’ free expression from silencing SLAPP lawsuits;
  • laws enabling a national class-action against opioid producers and manufacturers for their alleged role in the overdose crisis;
  • B.C.’s first government whistleblower protection system;
  • lobbying law reform to prevent government insiders from acting as lobbyists;
  • extensive reforms to B.C.’s public auto insurance system cutting losses at the provincial insurer by $1 billion while increasing benefits; and
  • the modernization of B.C.’s national class action, international arbitration, and domestic arbitration systems.
     

 

About Kenneth Armstrong, President, CBABC

Ken Armstrong is the President of the CBA BC Branch for the 2019-20 term. He is a 25-year member of the Canadian Bar Association, with many years volunteering on CBA national and branch committees, focused on legal aid and government relations. He also served over 20 years on CBABC Provincial Council. 

Mr. Armstrong has been practicing motor vehicle accident litigation since 1997 and has focused his practice on defending insurance claims since 1999. He has developed his expertise spending hundreds of hours in trial work. In 2008, Ken joined Stewart & Company – now known as Armstrong Naish Trial Lawyers. He became a partner in 2014 and has been the Managing Partner since 2016. His practice currently focuses on major loss claims and appellate work. He has particular expertise in liability matters, thoracic outlet syndrome and mild traumatic brain injury claims.

He has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, the Tax Court of Canada, the Human Rights Tribunal, and as an Adjudicator under the Canada Labour Code. His trial experience includes over 30 Supreme Court of British Columbia trials, whether judge alone or jury. He has taught lawyers on matters within motor vehicle accident litigation, including conducting jury trials.

Mr. Armstrong obtained a Bachelor of Laws in 1995 from the University of Alberta and was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1996.
