Perspectives on the Law of Costs and Professional Regulation
A panel of Ayla Akgungor, Gregory Sim, and Matthew Riskin will provide insight on the recent case law in Alberta relating to the costs in professional regulation discipline matters. Each speaking from a different perspective (independent counsel, prosecution/investigation, and defence), the Panel will comment on the recent cases (Alsaadi v Alberta College of Pharmacy, 2021 ABCA 313; Dr. Ignacio Tan III v Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, 2022 ABCA 221; Jinnah v Alberta Dental Association and College, 2022 ABCA 336; Rashid v Alberta (Securities Commission), 2023 ABCA 53) and discuss important takeaways, tensions between, impact on their practice, and any notable applications.
