OBA PROGRAM | 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM (ET)

This program is the sixth in a series of eight programs that make up the OBA’s Foundations in Judicial Competencies Certificate Program.

The sixth session explores the basics of judicial reasoning.

At its core, judicial reasoning is the way in which a judge reaches a conclusion or result in a case.  This is an essential part of the judiciary’s function.  The judge analyzes and interprets applicable statues and case law, and applies it to the set of facts before herself or himself.  However, this is not such a straight-forward and formulaic process.  If it was, then outcomes could be predicted with great ease.  Various external factors influence the logic and legal reasoning analysis.

Our distinguished panel will share their personal judicial reasoning methods and styles.  They will also provide their unique perspective on best practices and useful supports which help them build on perfecting this craft.
