Port Lands Flood Protection Project
Join your friends and colleagues from the Ontario Bar Association’s Construction & Infrastructure Law Section on a tour of the Port Lands Flood Protection Project.
The Port Lands Flood Protection Project is about taking action to protect Toronto’s southeastern downtown area. Right now, in a major storm, waters from the Don River could flood approximately 290ha of land through portions of the Port Lands, South Riverdale and Leslieville. The Port Lands Flood Protection Project is funded by the three levels of government and is led by Waterfront Toronto. The eliminate this flood risk, EllisDon is reconnecting the Don River to Lake Ontario by creating a naturalized river mouth.
To do this EllisDon is undertaking on one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Canada. Construction includes two new naturalized river valley outlets surrounded by new wetlands and public greenspace. This work involves digging a kilometer-long river valley, which ends in a new mouth for the Don River at the Polson Slip. EllisDon is also cleaning up polluted land at the same time as they build new roads, bridges, utilities, park space and public trails.

* Please bring your safety helmet, boots, reflective vest, and safety glasses for the tour.
* This is an outdoor rain or shine walking tour, please dress for the weather.
There are a very limited number of hardhats and safety glasses available to borrow on-site. Please contact Rosa Chong rchong@oba.org if you are in need. Vests and boots will not be available, please plan accordingly.
