OBA International Law PROGRAM | 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM (EDT)
On July 1, 2020, the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) entered into force, ushering in a range of changes to the regulation of trade across the North American trading bloc. A modernized version of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), CUSMA includes updates to many of NAFTA’s provisions, and covers areas and industries not previously addressed in NAFTA. A thorough understanding of CUSMA’s provisions is critical to understanding the new North American trading environment, and how it affects Canadian businesses and their commercial interests.
Join our expert panel for a wide-ranging discussion on CUSMA, including the following topics:
- Changes to CUSMA’s dispute settlement provisions, including state-state dispute settlement, investor-state dispute settlement, and dispute settlement under CUSMA’s Trade Remedies chapter
- An overview of CUSMA’s new Rapid-Response Labour Mechanism for the enforcement of labour rights
- Changes to CUSMA’s Market Access and Rules of Origin chapters, and how these changes affect certain industries
- Overview of CUSMA’s new chapter on Good Regulatory Practices, and how these new requirements affect commercial interests and consumers
- Discussion and overview of CUSMA’s new chapter on Digital Trade
