"Looking over the Horizon on new Federal Privacy and Cybersecurity Laws"
Joint Business Law, Privacy and Access Law and CCCA Sections
RECORDING
DESCRIPTION:
With the Digital Charter Implementation Act (C-27) and the Critical Cyber Systems Protection Act (C-26) both working their way through Parliament, it is clear that things are going to get more complicated in the area of privacy and cybersecurity. Potential massive penalties imposed by a new privacy tribunal is a dramatic change from the current ombuds-model. The ability of government to scrutinize and dictate cybersecurity measures across a range of “critical” industries (and their service providers) is also a significant change from the status quo. David Fraser, partner with McInnes Cooper, will give an overview of these two significant bills with a focus on what business lawyers and their clients should be thinking about now, before they are passed and proclaimed.
