The CBA Public Sector Lawyers Section presents:
Legal Counsel at the Supreme Court of Canada
March 6, 2020 | 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Eastern
Teleconference
The Supreme Court of Canada is an important national institution that is positioned at the pinnacle of the judicial branch of Canada’s government. Unbeknownst to many, a host of lawyers, apart from the Judges’ law clerks, support this institution in its complex role. Barbara Kincaid has been the Court’s General Counsel for over 30 years, and thus is very well suited to demystify the role of judicial legal counsel at the Court. She will provide an overview of the Court’s administrative structure along with the roles of legal counsel in providing legal advice and support to the Supreme Court judges on matters before them, from the initial application for leave to appeal to the final judgment on an appeal.
