The CBA Competition Law and Foreign Investment Review Section’s Marketing Practices Committee present:

Navigating Disclosure Challenges in the Age of AI and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)

October 29, 2024 | 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Eastern
Online (Zoom)

How do consumers perceive and understand disclosures in a world where more and more products are embedded with Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and AI? Join us for a discussion on the complexity of disclosure issues in this modern world, and let’s hear from our speakers about:

  • How this issue interacts with the Competition Act and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA);
  • An overview of current practices that seek to inform consumers about how their data is being used, and
  • How to empirically establish that our privacy policies establish sufficient understanding in the mind of the "credulous and inexperienced" consumer as it pertains to their data being moved

Moderator

Kelan Ton, Competition Bureau

Speakers

Professor Simon Blanchard, Georgetown University

Louisa Garib, Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
