Addressing Racism & Unconscious Bias in the Practice of Immigration Law

1. What should a lawyer do when faced with racist comments or discrimination from other counsel, co-workers, or clients? How does one address micro-aggressions in real time? How do you recognize and address unconscious bias? Panelists will share their personal experiences dealing with racism and bias in their professional lives and offer effective tips and strategies to address issues.

2. CBSA Oversight and Bias: Join this interactive workshop to discuss what oversight of CBSA should look like, and how to address bias within the CBSA and in decision-making. Topics will include:

  • Implementing the CBSA Oversight mechanism: Sharing ideas and exploring strategies for getting it back on the political agenda
  • Challenges and issues dealing with CBSA: How counsel has been addressing challenges in the absence of an oversight mechanism
  • Dialogue and collaboration with CBSA: How to work through informal channels to gain more transparency
  •  Learning from other jurisdictions: Insights that may shed light on how to design the CBSA oversight mechanism
