Parenting During a Pandemic: What Family Lawyers Should Know


With the current crisis, family lawyers across the country are struggling to advise their clients on how to deal with parenting issues that are arising as a result of COVID-19. This is exacerbated by the closure of courts to all but the most urgent of matters. As well, family lawyers are struggling with managing their practices and clients at this time.  This webinar will provide practical, useful information to family lawyers, in order to do our best to assist Canadian families navigate this trying time. 

Topics will include:

  • Review of case law from across the country on enforcing and amending parenting orders during the pandemic
  • Information from medical and mental health professionals concerning best practices for children going between households
  • Navigating the court system during the pandemic, including what is being considered “urgent” or ”emergent”, court comments on moving cases forward under limited operations
  • Practical tips for getting your work done remotely
  • Guidance for practice finances for family lawyers
  • Mental health resources for both clients and practitioners
