AGENDA
Join leading experts and your peers from across Canada at the annual Charity Law Symposium to examine the recent developments and emerging landscapes in political activities and freedom of expression in a charity law context. The Charity & Not-For-Profit Section of the Canadian Bar Association is bringing you this essential one-day event. Among the speakers and topics planned for the 2019 Sympsium are:
- Review of the most recent developments in this area, including government announcements, Senate Committee report and cases such as Canada Without Poverty and Trinity Western;
- A panel to discuss the emerging issues and challenges understanding the landscape for political activities and free expression;
- A review of any charity or not-for-profit changes featured in the 2019 Federal Budget;
- Consideration of journalism as a charitable purpose;
- A practice update regarding what the directors need to consider and policies which should be in place to balance a charity’s freedom of expression with individual members’ rights;
- A representative from the CRA Charities Directorate, updating the sector regarding the work of the Directorate.
