SYNOPSIS
Facilitated by Laura Atkinson (Victoria), Woody Mosten and Michael Butterfield (Victoria) discuss the “business” side of unbundling and how to design effective pricing strategies to support a lucrative unbundling practice. Michael explains how keeping track of actual time spent is helpful in designing pricing strategies regardless of whether or not they are hourly based. He also provides good tips on the analysis that is necessary to set prices, how to ensure timely payment (and avoid account receivables) and how to avoid “scope creep”. Woody then shares his tips for various unbundling roles and refers to examples of existing US and Canadian lawyers successfully offering unbundling services.
