Synopsis
A leopard doesn’t change its spots. Or does it? Conventional wisdom advises us to not get our hopes up in making big changes ourselves, and that we’ll only fail trying to change someone else. Is that true?

In ADR processes we are agents of change: transforming conflict into communication, insults into insights, and churn into change. Yet, “high conflict personalities” seem to thwart resolution, and “irreconcilable differences” remain. What else can a skilled ADR practitioner do?

This interactive session surfaces some of our toughest challenges in the resolution field and reveals counter-intuitive insights that really work in shifting some of the most stuck dynamics. Drawing on current research, Roy Johnson will offer evidence-based insights into whether people really change at all, and surprising tools to try when nothing else works. Come prepared to share your own challenges. Let’s swap our other-level super skills that they don’t teach in conflict resolution school!

About the Speaker
Roy Johnson, MA, C.Arb, C.Med, is co-author of the top-selling “Turning Conflict into Profit” and a founder and Principal of The Neutral Zone Coaching and Consulting Services Inc in Vancouver. Roy is anarbitrator, mediator, executive coach, facilitator and trainer who has worked with communities, families, and public and private-sector organizations for over 25 years to resolve some of their toughest conflicts. He’s a national conference speaker on topics including communication, conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork and workplace respect. He presents insights gleaned from years of work in the trenches, and balances this with humour and a passion for healing broken relationships. When away from his desk (not just hiding under it) he develops real estate, sails and laughs as much as possible with his husband of 25 years and their two inseparable dogs Cookie and Peanut.
