ONLINE MEETING: The UVIC JD/JID Program: What it means to have JID Experience in the Legal Profession
This meeting is being hosted by the Aboriginal Law - Vancouver Island Section.

Speakers: Shayla Praud, Associate, JFK Law LLP
Time: Thursday, May 22, 2025, 12:30pm - 1:30pm (PT)
CPD Hours: 1.00 hour
Synopsis

Shayla Praud shares her experiences in the JD/JID program at the University of Victoria, which includes transsystemic courses and field schools in Indigenous communities throughout Canada. Braiding various Indigenous legal orders alongside Canadian law, the JD/JID provides students with unique and valuable insights into how various legal orders can work together, and how they don’t.

As understanding Indigenous legal traditions becomes crucial for legal practice, this presentation explores how JD/JID graduates can help bridge gaps between Indigenous and Canadian legal systems during reconciliation efforts. Learn what JID graduates bring to the table and how they can enrich practice with their particular training.
