About Sally Campbell
Sally Campbell is a retired mediator/lawyer, currently developing her chops as a peace writer. She launched her mediation practice in 1986 after 8 years’ practicing law, and had the good fortune to mediate thousands of disputes over the years. She facilitated groups large and small. This hands-on experience, often with deep-rooted conflict, led to her working across Canada, designing & delivering training in negotiation, mediation, & all aspects of collaborative process. She worked with lawyers, judges, government, and as a lead trainer for CLEBC. Sally was for many years a Senior Trainer for the JIBC. She has long been deeply involved with indigenous communities - as mediator, learner & teacher - exploring how restorative practices & traditional ways of resolving disputes can inform current issues, healing and problem-solving. Her peak experience in law was conceiving of and then, co-organizing (with now Madam Justice Ardith Walkem & Louise Mandell, KC) CLEBC’s first-ever conference on Indigenous Legal Orders in 2012.
Until 2021, her work included a decade of extensive engagement with faculty leadership, management & staff at UBC, in various roles as a conflict specialist. She lives on Hornby Island, BC, traditional territory of K’omox & Pentlatch First Nations, and can usually be found baking bread, walking the beach, or skiing, when not researching and writing about social justice issues & militarism for the Islands Grapevine.
Territorial Acknowledgement
This event will be broadcast from the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueam First Nations.
