Perspectives on the Restructured Energy Market
Presented by the CBA Alberta Natural Resources Section
On Demand. Originally presented on February 12, 2025.
Under the direction of the Government of Alberta, the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is undertaking a substantial revision to the operation of Alberta’s electricity market, creating the Restructured Energy Market (REM). The AESO’s consultations on the technical design of the REM will continue until the end of 2025. The result will be a significantly different electricity marketplace, with impacts on generators, consumers, utilities, investors, and other market players. This panel will dissect what is happening in the REM and explore REM impacts from the perspectives of industrial consumers, the energy storage industry, and corporate renewable power procurement.
