Inns of Court - Calgary

Inns of Court is a program of informal discussion and 'dining out' on topic of interest to early-career barristers and follows the English tradition of dining with senior practitioners and judges. The event will give attendees the opportunity it hear presentations from distinguished speakers on topics that are most important to those in the early years of practice, while also dining with members of the judiciary while having casual conversations, asking questions, and being regaled with stories from the bench.

Join us for an engaging discussion on “Practical Tips & Tricks for Written and Oral Advocacy”. The panelists will offer valuable guidance for young lawyers looking to sharpen their advocacy skills in both written and oral submissions. The discussion will explore best practices for presenting arguments across various court levels, highlighting key differences in style and expectations. This session aims to equip attendees with practical tools to advocate confidently and ethically in any courtroom setting.

Space is limited (25), First Come First Served. This event is open to young lawyers in their first 10 years of call. Preference will be given to young lawyers, followed by articling students who will be called to the Bar before year-end. Interested articling or law students may submit their names to a waiting list, and should tickets still be available closer to the date, they will be contacted.

Inns of Court event registrations are non-refundable. If a registrant is unable to attend, they may transfer their registration to a colleague and are responsible for finding a replacement. Registrants who do not attend the event and do not transfer their registrations are not eligible for a refund.
