Navigating Alberta’s Health Information Act: Rights, Obligations, and Emerging Trends
Presented by the CBA Alberta Health Law South Section
On Demand. Originally presented on March 13, 2025.
Protecting health information in an increasingly digitalized healthcare system is more critical than ever. Alberta’s Health Information Act (HIA) sets the rules for the collection, use, disclosure and protection of health information in the custody and control of custodians, such as health care providers. The HIA is designed to protect individuals’ privacy, while facilitating appropriate access to health information for the purposes of health care and system management. In this webinar, Tory Hibbitt will provide an overview of how the HIA works, key compliance considerations, and emerging trends to monitor while this niche area of the law evolves.
