Joint Medical-legal Approaches to Advance Care Planning: Fertile or Futile?
Presented by the CBA Alberta Health Law South Section
On Demand. Originally presented on September 12, 2024.
Despite Albertans believing in the benefits of advance care planning, and taking steps to complete it, their wishes may not influence decision-making in healthcare settings. Our panelists will explore how advance care planning commonly breaks down in the hospital setting, and lead a discussion on potential solutions. Do recently-developed joint medical-legal approaches and resources have merit? Provide your insights and help us strengthen legal and medical practices! This session is moderated by Maureen Douglas and Patricia Biondo (ACP Project: Alberta Medical-legal Collaboration, Covenant Health Palliative Institute).
SPEAKERS
Eleanor Stewart (Clinical Ethicist, Covenant Health)
Sheila Killoran (Education Lean, Covenant Health Palliative Institute)
John Stachniak (General Counsel and Corporate Director of Risk Management, Covenant Health)
