The Child’s Voice in Parenting Disputes: Practical and Ethical Considerations

Presented by the CBA Alberta Family Law North Section

On Demand. Originally presented on September 12, 2024.

Family lawyers have both a legal and ethical obligation to consider the views and experiences of children in parenting disputes. Children’s rights are well established. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Canadian Divorce Act, the Alberta Family Law Act, case law, and social science research require us to consider the child’s views and preferences in Family disputes and the impact of parenting conflict on children. When and how we practically bring in children’s voices to Family disputes is not always straightforward.

Join us for an inter-disciplinary panel each providing 8-minute presentations on the following topics:

  • PN7 Voice of the Child and child-inclusive Triage processes
  • Assessing the child’s voice in relation to ages and stages of development
  • Considerations in Child Inclusive Separation/Divorce Interventions
  • Bringing the child’s voice into the collaborative process with Child & Family Specialists
  • The child’s voice in Brief Conflict Interventions
  • The BC Hear the Child process

      And more!
