Bill C-26: Introduction of New Mandatory Breach Reporting Requirements in Canada
On June 14, 2022, the Canadian government tabled Bill C-26, An Act Respecting Cyber Security (“Bill C-26”), which introduces significant new cybersecurity requirements for federally regulated industries and new national security requirements for the telecommunications sector. As noted in the official Backgrounder, Bill C-26 is intended to empower the Canadian government to “respond to emerging cyber threats” and “strengthen baseline cyber security” for vital services and systems. In this meeting, we will review the key components of Bill C-26 as it is currently drafted.
