Reports and Records: The Role of Psychologists in Personal Injury Matters

Presented by the CBA Alberta Personal Injury Law South Section

On Demand. Originally presented on November 1, 2023.

There are regular discussions among lawyers about considerations that a psychologist in Alberta may be working through when they receive a request for records.  The guide currently on the College of Alberta Psychologists’ website asks psychologists to not rely on “documents provided by lawyers and instead speak directly to the client”. The guide also asks psychologists to consider the legal concept of burdens of proof, something that not all psychologists may interpret the same. Dr. Janzen and Dr. Gale will be presenting to help shed some light on these subjects and other related issues from a psychologist’s perspective.

SPEAKERS

R. Travis Bissett (Partner, Stringam LLP)
Dr. Troy Janzen (Registered Psychologist, Deputy Registrar with the College of Psychologists)
Dr. Reagan Gale (Registered Psychologist, President of the College of Alberta Psychologists)
