Canada’s Strategy Towards a Circular Economy for Plastics and Court Challenges Threatening Canada’s Strategy on Plastic Wastes
Canada is taking increasing steps to accelerate a transition to a circular economy for plastics including by banning a number of single-use plastic items deemed to be harmful as well as introducing measures for recycled content and the labelling of products. Despite these measures, Canada has faced court challenges that threaten to undo Canada’s progress toward its goal of zero plastic waste by 2030. This session will examine these court challenges upon the backdrop of Canada’s efforts to date to reduce plastic waste and increase innovation in the recycling of plastics.
