Understanding the Parole System in Canada
Presented by the CBA Alberta Criminal Justice North Section
On Demand. Originally presented on October 24, 2023.
What happens to an offender after they are sentenced to a federal sentence? When, why, and how are they paroled? What types of parole releases exist, and where do paroled offenders live? How are offenders supervised on parole, and what happens in the event of a breach? What involvement does a parole officer have with high-risk (section 810.1 and 810.2) offenders, offenders on long-term supervision orders, and dangerous offenders? Parole Officers Corina Defazio and Katie Hastey will answer these questions and more as they help us to understand the Canadian parole system better.
