Wrongful Convictions
On a fundamental level, wrongful convictions occur in the Canadian criminal justice system when people are convicted of crimes that they did not commit. As of 2023, the first ever comprehensive registry of wrongful convictions has identified over 80 cases of wrongful convictions. Join our speakers, Jessica Zita, a defence lawyer specializing in wrongful convictions, and Maria Shepherd, a board member of Innocence Canada and an exoneree with personal experience with wrongful convictions, as we discuss the causes of wrongful convictions.
