Lobbying Law and Election Finances Law: Compliance Update for Alberta General Counsel.
Every business or organization that deals with government should be familiar with laws on lobbying. In addition, entities that advertise or communicate through social media need to understand provincial and federal rules on third party election advertising. With a provincial general election legislated for 2023 and a federal general election possible at any time, this timely compliance-focused presentation will help corporate counsel understand election finance legislation as well as laws that govern lobbying by executives and employees.
Guy Giorno leads the Political Law practice of the Fasken law firm, is co-author of the legal text Lobbying in Canada, and routinely writes, lectures, advises and represents clients in the areas of lobbyist registration law, public sector conflict of interest, election law and government ethics law. He previously served as chief of staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ontario Premier Mike Harris.
